Halloween Fancy Dress - Plan Early!

If you're going to a Halloween party or trick or treating with your children, nieces or nephews you are going to need a Halloween costume.

Most Halloween parties are held on the weekends prior or just after October 31st.  You should order your fancy dress costume well before this.  Shops have an abundance of Halloween outfits to choose from, but the popular costumes and sizes could sell out quickly. Buy early and avoid disappointment. 

Older children always know exactly what costume they want to wear. Find the costume online and order it well in advance, so if it doesn't fit you'll still have plenty of time to re-order.

There's a fabulous range of categories in Halloween fancy dress so decide how scary you want to be and then have a look at the options.  Do you want to frighten people and love to wear gruesome costumes? Try a Texas chainsaw massacre costume.  You can buy the whole outfit including apron, trousers wig and mask, or you can just buy the mask. Accessories include Leatherface teeth and the chainsaw.  Douse yourself in some fake blood and your ready to go.

Maybe you'd like to scare people but not quite as blatantly? Try a vampire fancy dress outfit.  Halloween wouldn't be quite the same without a pack of vampires terrorizing the neighborhood.  Go for a classic Lady Vampire costume, sexy vampire vixen or a gothic men's Halloween costume including velvet vest and lined cape. Add some vampire teeth and fake blood if you want to add some gore!

If you'd like your Halloween fancy dress a little less violent,  fear not! There's a range for you.  Ladies can find a range of fairy costumes, witch's dresses and devilish outfits. Men have a fabulous choice of ghosts, jokers and pirate's costumes to choose from.

You have to decide - a Harry Potter or a Zombie?  The Wizard outfit is a safe bet when you're trick or treating with small children but bloodthirsty costumes are excellent for an adult themed Halloween fancy dress party.  Choose wisely!

How Does 3D Work?

3D is back! This is not your father's 3D. This is a technologically advanced 3D that once you see it you WILL want to see more! It seems like everywhere we look 3D movies, TV shows in 3D, even 3D for your iPhone!!!

But, there are as many questions as there are 3D applications. How does 3D work? What makes it different from 3D that came out before? What are all those different glasses? Can I watch 3D without glasses?

First, a little history. The first 3D started millions of years ago with man. Yes, we all see things in 3D. All humans have binocular vision. What that means is that we have two eyes separated by a space of 2-3 inches. This enables us to perceive depth and see the world in 3D. This separation causes each eye to see the world from a slightly different perspective. The brain combines these two images into one. It comprehends the spatial differences and uses them to calculate distance. This is how we sense depth and distance.

A simple way to understand this principle is to hold your thumb up at arms length and cover one eye with your hand. Then try putting your hand over the other eye. As you switch between open eyes you should see your thumb "jumping" back and forth against the background.

Stereoscopy was invented in 1838. There is a lot of debate about the first 3D film but "L'arrivée du train" filmed in 1903 by the Lumière brothers. They were the inventors of cinema and it is often referred to as the first stereoscopic movie ever made. When it was released, audiences panicked because they thought the train was about to crash right into them! The funny thing about it is that it was probably on of the first remakes. The film was remade from the original that came out in 1895! And you wonder why Hollywood keeps remaking films. It's practically born to it!

If you are like me then you probably experienced 3D for the first time in your life with that old Viewmaster viewer. You stuck that funny round thingy with the little slides on it into your Viewmaster, plastered your eyes to the two eyepieces and tilted towards the living room table lamp. Suddenly, you were transported to a million places where you felt you could reach out and touch things in 3 dimensions. Never mind that it is really Stereoscopic and true 3D would be more like a hologram that is standing in front of you and I don't mean the CNN kind. I was hooked even then!

After that 3D came and went showing up in several incarnations during the 50's, 60's, 70's & the 80's. Titles like House of Wax (1953), Robot Monster (1953), Creature From the Black Lagoon (1954), Dial M for Murder (1954) , Flesh for Frankenstein (a.k.a. Andy Warhol's Frankenstein) (1973), Jaws 3D(1983) and Captain EO (1986) to name a few.

Now fast forward to November 2008 and the first 3DX Festival takes place in Singapore. Some of the top luminaries from around the world attended the 3DX Festival to promote 3D media, including: Jeffrey Katzenberg, CEO of DreamWorks Animation; Mark Zoradi, president of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Group; Jon Landau, James Cameron's producer on his new 3 D movie, Avatar; and other directors who are all involved in 3D projects: Robert Zemeckis, James Cameron, Steven Spielberg, Geroge Lucas, and Peter Jackson.

There are different types, or flavors, of 3D. Some put 3D technology into glasses while others put it into a monitor or tech application. Computers or even the iphone can handle 3D but require some additional active components , such as software and applications that are just now being created.

The first time 3D technology was created it used the traditional red and blue glasses. This is called anaglyph and is very cheap in both cost and performance. Fortunately, with the rise of technology advancement we have many better ways of displaying 3D media.

Polarized glasses is another common type of 3D glasses. These are the 3D glasses that you will get at IMAX or in other 3D movie theaters. Although they work better than the old type red and blue glasses, this methods requires two projectors in the theater and additional layers to the monitor for the technology to work properly. The onetime theater set-up expense and additional cost for the polarized glasses may make this method less appealing.

3D screens with no glasses is here today. There are different ways that the 3D screen technology is built. One way is using multiple screen layers like the polarized glasses mentioned above, which is expensive but you do not need specialized glasses to view the 3D on the screen.

Historically the phoenix was used not just as a tattoo. It was also printed on the coins by the ancient Romans, who believed that it would ensure the longevity of the Roman Empire. Harry Potter Series Vs Twilight Saga

Well for me, I think there is no reason for comparison for the two series has its own different types of genre, themes, settings and concept.

Harry Potter series as we all know is categorized as a children's books but for me the book is for all ages. It is more of an adventure than of a love story. Although it is concentrated on the main character which is Harry Potter and we see the story from the character's points of view, it also shows some scenes from the other characters points of view and sometimes scenes that doesn't include Harry Potter himself which frequently happens at the first chapter of the book. The book tackles about the lives, struggles and adventures of Harry Potter. Most of the settings in the story (except book 7) are inside the Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry.

Twilight saga is categorized as suspense thriller and love story. I think it is more of a love story than of an adventure. The story revolves on one of the main characters which is Isabella Swan and we hear the story all the time from that characters point of view although there is an exception in the last chapter of book 2 and the second part of book 4 which is I think for some obvious reason, when Bella was bed ridden, the author cannot write much about her since Bella is just stationed in one place. The book tackles about the love story of two very different people and the conflicts that it includes. Most of the settings are inside the whole town of Forks and only a few scenes happen inside the school.

But for me the two authors are both excellent writers in their own field. They give justice to their characters and they can really affect your emotions while reading their books. They make you feel like you are the character in that book and you're experiencing the same situations because you can really feel the intensity of their emotions. They give every single thread of details that even you can't describe what its like.

So if you're a kind of reader who likes more of an adventure, then I think you will like Harry Potter series better. And if you are more type of a romance reader who likes more of a love story, then, you will like the Twilight saga better.

So I think it's unfair to compare these two book series and please stop making fuss about it, okay, both the book series are beautiful and are really fun to read.

Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey Exhibit at Universal Studios

I'm a fan of Harry Potter having read most of the books and seen all the movies. So I'm anxiously anticipating the new Wizarding World of Harry Potter exhibit opening this June at Universal Orlando Resort. It promises, "from magical spells to magical creatures, from dark villains to daring heroes....Plus pulse-pounding rides and attractions that transport you."

Well I admit my pulse is pumping right now just thinking about walking in to Hogwarts Castle. I'll be able to visit Dumbledore's office, the Defence Against the Dark Arts Classroom, the Gryffindor common room and the Room-of-Requirement with its hundreds of floating candles. I'll even be able to soar over the castle.

But the absolute best thing I'm looking forward to is being swept into a Quidditch match. A Quidditch match is a wizarding sport played on broomsticks that's popular among wizards and witches. I wonder if they'll let me have my own broom. I want to be on Harry's team. I would love to catch the "Golden Snitch," after all its worth 150 points.

The technological innovations are supposed to be off the chart. Some of the technology was invented just for this exhibit. It's a first-ever combination of live-action, advanced robotic technology and innovative filmmaking - specially designed and developed for this brand-new adventure.

The attraction's newly created ride system envelops guests in filmed action scenes and moves those scenes with them as they travel through the ride, allowing more time in the center of the adventure and with their favorite characters. Universal says, "this fusion of robotic technology and filmed scenes has never been achieved until now."

The ride takes about an hour. Wow, that'll make standing in line worth it. There are 12 different scenes in the attraction. And of course my favorite characters will be there, Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Hermoine Granger and Professor Dumbledore. I heard that Fred and George Weasley might make an appearance as well. I hope so. You never know what to expect from those two rascals.

The last time I was at Universal Studios in Orlando I had a Grrrreat Time-fun, fun, and fun. I can't wait to visit the new Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey exhibit. And if Harry Potter is not your thing, no worries mate-Go anyway. Instead, you can swing above the streets with Spider Man or help Shrek save Princess Fiona or battle those pesky aliens alongside Agent J. Did I mention how much fun it is?

Voldemort is an evil genius from the Slytherin house, who is afraid of only Dumbledore and Harry. Lord Voldemort has no feeling whatsoever and is 100% evil with one aim to control the entire wizarding and non-wizarding worlds. This makes Lord Voldemort one of the greatest Halloween Costumes for years to come!

To Dress Like Voldemort For Halloween Follow These Tips:

Voldemort costumes will consist of your best wizard clothes and a Voldemort mask. This usually involves getting a long black robe the longer the better. You will also want a Voldemort Mask to cover your face. You should also consider the look of your hands as well. Voldemort as a lifeless person will continue attempting to come back. His hands are typically very pale white with long nails. You will also require a wand for your hands! Your Voldemort Robe should be a big black dressing gown. It usually buttons up and so it doesn't really matter what you wear underneath.

Face - There are some Voldemort masks out there. However, to have a more realistic look, use make-up. Use a sponge to cover the face in white to simulate Voldemort's pale skin. Add subtle hints of blue to tint the temples, jawline and a touch under the eyes.

Hair - If you are not bald try using a bald cap from your local costume shop. Or use gel to hold your hair back while you cover your head with the hood of your robes. You'll have the best Voldemort Costume if you follow those simple steps!

Leadership and the Harry Potter Syndrome

When looking at filling first/middle level leadership positions, the vast majority of organizations commendably prefer to promote from within. Unfortunately, with few exceptions, the vast majority of organizations suffer from the Harry Potter Syndrome of leadership development.

The day of promotion

Congratulations, the position is filled. It may be a big announcement or a simple handshake in your new superior's office. But at some point, you get wacked over the head with a something like Harry Potter's magic wand and poof, YOU ARE NOW A MANAGER. You will start the following Monday and thanks to the abracadabra of the magic wand, you will now BE A MANAGER.

But nobody knows the batteries died a long time ago

Oops, but that same magic wand that was suppose to instantaneously give you all the skills you need to be an effective manager has dead batteries in it. It actually hasn't worked for a long time, if at all. So there you are, Monday morning, in your new office, phone is ringing, people are screaming and your new boss is telling you that you need to get to your first of umpteen meetings for the day and you didn't become magically transformed into supermanager. Ahem. How embarrassing. So you quietly take a sheet of paper, title it to-do list, and make your first entry...one case of Pepto-Bismol, priority urgent. Welcome to your first day in your new position.

So how does a manager become a manager?

There are two methods that have been used through the ages. The first is imitation. You had a boss that you liked, and so you now attempt to do it the way she did. This may or may not work with who you are and that leads us to the second method. If you are a sincere, reflective new manager, that second method is trial and error, where you try something out, make mistakes and learn from them. If you are not, or like most people, just don't have the time to be able to observe and reflect on your managerial actions, the second method is called trial and error and error and error and so on. The consequences for the organization starts out as a ripple, and like an approaching hurricane with the ripples turning into waves and wind building to a furious onslaught until the damage done increases to such a degree it becomes difficult to repair.

To improve the results at the end, you have to start at the beginning

Each organization that wishes to promote and create a leader, needs to fully support and develop that leader, so that they can become the productive manager you need them to be. Provide a systemic developmental process which acknowledges that a truly effective manager produces increased value, production and results at every level of contact, as well as reduce those Pepto-Bismol costs. Had J.K. Rowling not put pen to paper and created her unfathomably famous series of children's books, "Harry Potter", the world may have had to wait a lot longer for the likes of British actress Emma Watson to triumphantly emerge.

In a somewhat unprecedented move the leading female role of Hermione Granger, one of Potter's closest friends in the Harry Potter series, was given to Emma. Why unprecedented you ask? At a mere fifteen years of age this talented, freckle faced teen actress already has four Harry Potter movies under her cape, staring in each as the same Potter pal role of Hermione Granger. This character sees her as the female comrade to an almost exclusively cast of male leads. At the tender age of ten Watson's convincing, endearing role as somewhat stuck up, perfect student Granger in the first Potter movie, "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone", had fans hooked. Over night she became the most searched for Potter cast member on the Internet.

Though her acting career has thus far extended only into the realm of Harry Potter sorcery and humongous box office sales, Watson has an unmistakable talent that will likely see her through when the days of Harry Potter films eventually come to an end. Why Harry Potter Should Be The Next President

I must confess that I am not one to succumb to pop culture. Nevertheless, even I cannot help but be drawn into the tale of Harry Potter and his band of friends. I wonder what it would like to have such a character as our president.

Of course today, the very characteristics that grace one with the presidency are more akin to Lord Voldamort, it would be a fantastic change of pace to see a man who is loyal, hardworking, talented, and excellent in the white house. Unfortunately, the characteristics that make the public love Harry are ironically, what we despise in a presidential candidate.

Loyalty - Harry is unwilling to sacrifice the relationships he has made over his life. In fact, he holds his friends to a higher standard of loyalty than they themselves are capable of producing on their own.

Honesty - Harry is not willing to deceive or let his friends be deceived. He is always vigilant and seeking the truth no matter what the cost.

Integrity - Harry's main strength is his integrity, something we do not value in our leadership.

Strength of conviction - Harry is willing to sacrifice everything even his own reputation and life to fight for what he knows is right.

As Americans, we flock to the movies and idolize this character. Even his faults are not important because of the overriding desire of Harry's heart to do right.

In contrast, Voldamort is every thing Harry is not. Is too is talented but has a talent for bullying, for being rash, narcissistic, destructive....

As Americans, while Harry would be the perfect president, one who would always look out for the interests of his friends and the interests of others, he is not popular. People do not want to believe the truth.

Rather we prefer the liar, the self-centered politician that only means to hurt and destroy what we all know to be right and good and true. Americans love the liar, badmouth, and make fun of the honest and good intentioned.
