Film Review - Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince (2009)

BOTTOM LINE: The sixth film in the series continues on a darker narrative path, with a very even and mysterious tone with glorious visuals. However, as with the other films in this franchise, this is very light stuff indeed story-wise, making it hard to recommend to any one looking for a story with a bit of meat on the bone or a genuine cinematic experience.

THE GOOD: The Harry Potter films have become just as big a gold mine as the novels they are based upon and "The Half Blood Prince" continues this tradition with a much richer visual texture, darker overtones, and a somewhat quieter and subdued tone that is both welcome and unexpected. This time out Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) is entrusted by Dumbledore to find out more information about his nemesis Lord Voldemort and his connection to new wizard teacher Professor Slughorn (Jim Broadbent), all with the unexpected help of a text book formerly owned by the "Half-Blood Prince". As with the other films, the twenty odd minutes specifically devoted to the Harry-Voldemort story line are quite fascinating, and subsequently set up a rather interesting climax to come in subsequent films. All round, the recurring cast are becoming rather good in their roles. Radcliffe looks quite comfortable as Harry, much more assured and confident as he has ever been in the role. Grint and Watson are likewise as strong, as are the entire supporting cast. The film is quieter, taking on a more sombre tone and has a moment or two that could be classified as scary; the cursed female student frozen in mid-air by an evil force certainly sends tingles down your spine. The film looks absolutely glorious visually, and is perhaps the first of the films to not look overly CG-ish and more natural. The appeal of these films is certainly for kids, although adults do enjoy them as well and on this front, this new Harry Potter film works.

THE BAD: The story is very light for a feature film. Not having read the books I cannot say if scenes have been omitted or not, but my general impression of this film, and the others before it, is that they have about a 20-30 minute section which holds the meat of the story (which is actually quite interesting), and the rest of it is devoted to the uninteresting teenage games played between the characters and the requisite and boring Quidditch match. As a result, unless you are really in to this stuff, there is hardly any meat on the story-bone. Despite the immaculate attention to visual detail and the overall good execution of performance, direction and editing, the base material barely qualifies as a cinematic experience. Harry Potter fans will probably be up in arms over this analysis, particularly given its appeal, but not every one is a fan.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince - A New Projection of 3D

With the advancement in the technological standards, likewise, the cinematography and graphics of the films have also been greatly augmented. They couldn't move fast but also not really slow. All these parameters had to be kept in consideration before finalising their graphic appearances. Due to the complications of productions of these Inferi, the supervisors had to work long enough to present a satisfactory module. The incredible by-product is expected to be a masterpiece of 3D animations and productions that are an eternal part of the fictional tale.

At the succession of the Inferi-attack, the ring of fire that is created in order to save, Dumbledore and Harry from their attack is also an important occasion of 3D exposure. It had to be created in such a way as if propane was being burnt. The graphic designers had to carry out a lot of experimental procedures to produce a perfect sample for the ring of fire.

Chris Horvath, computer graphics artist, had to spend eight months to find an easier way of conjuring flames. This has proved to be an endeavouring task for Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince's entire team in order to boost up the standard of 3D graphics that, expectedly, would increase the thrill of the whole venture.

Many graphical films have so far been released with new ideas being revealed in order to enhance the technological advancement to greater heights and introduce new state-of-the-art techniques. Likewise, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince would also prove to be a new dimension in the graphics world.

Our Own Harry Potter

As the season grows by, the challenge grows for the kids in Ashburton Grove. Overcoming the condemning eyes of all, the team has grown from strength to strength. First, winning 2 cups in preseason and then keeping an unbeaten streak while on the way to the top of the table.

Using a comparison to the magical world of Harry Potter, like the kids at Hogwarts, our kids lost their star. What Albus Dumbledore meant and signifies to the school of Hogwarts was what Thierry Henry meant to Arsenal Football Club. With a flick of his wand, Albus always conjures something out of nothing. Similarly, with a flick of his boots, Henry commanded the field with such majestic fare that leaves all in awe. The death of Dumbledore mirrors similarly to the departure of the King at Ashburton. The sense of doom and despair surrounded the Emirates Stadium like a crowd of Dementors camping in Hogwarts.

As the saying goes, for every cloud there is a silver lining. Enter Cesc Fabregas! The Gunner's answer to Harry Potter. The boy genius is the fulcrum of the new team that Arsenal is building. Fabregas gives hope to his teammates with his leadership and vision on the pitch. Like Harry, he is being pushed into the limelight at a tender age. With his raw talent and charisma, he is leading the team from the center of the park. Why They Launched Harry Potter At 12:01 Midnight

A missionary and his family were forced to camp
outside on a hill. They had money with them and
were fearful of an attack by roving thieves.

After praying, they went to sleep. Months later
an injured man was brought into the mission
hospital. He asked the missionary if he had
soldiers guarding him on that special night.

"We intended to rob you," he said, "but we
were afraid of the twenty-seven soldiers."

When the missionary returned to his homeland, he

church said, "we had a prayer meeting that night,
and I took the roll. There were just twenty-seven

Why was their prayer so effective?

Because they prayed it at the midnight hour.

Recently, something else was also programmed into
the midnight hour. It was so huge, so far-reaching,
with the potential to affect the lives of untold
millions around the world.

I am talking about the global launch of the new
book in the Harry Potter series on July 16th.

The Midnight Launch

Unless you've been vacationing in some cave (away
from tv and other news media) these past few weeks,
you most certainly have been bombarded by the
latest wave of "Pottermania," which was launched
just after midnight (12:01a.m.to be exact) in
all the continents.

Kids all over the world had to camp out at midnight,
in their favorite bookstores just to grab their copy
of "Harry Potter and the half blood prince," the
latest book in the wildly popular Harry Potter series.

The books were reportedly flying off the shelves at
the rate of 50,000 copies an hour! Incredible.

But why was it launched at midnight?

Spiritual people understand that midnight is a
crucial spiritual entity on its own. The most
powerful, history-making events that you hear about
(both good and bad) can be traced to the midnight hour.

A few examples from the Bible:

* When God wanted to execute judgment on Egypt, He
chose the midnight hour (Exodus 11).

* Samson waited till the midnight hour to storm
the gates of his enemies (Judges 16).

* It was at midnight that Paul and Silas were
rescued from prison (Acts 16).

So was it any surprise that:

* Those at the forefront of the global revival
of witchcraft waited until midnight of July 16
to launch their lethal weapon?

Many bad things that we hear about daily have their
origin at midnight. In Job 34:20 we read:

"In a moment shall they die, and the people
shall be troubled at midnight, and pass away:
and the mighty shall be taken without hand."

So why did they launch Harry Potter at midnight?

If you are a Christian you may or may not be aware of
the explosive revival of witchcraft internationally,
pioneered by a spirit known to our modern world as
Harry Potter. His real name in the Bible is
Beelzebub, lord of the flies.

He has brilliantly repackaged himself and is being
marketed to unsuspecting kids the world over as
the fun, harmless, even lovable Harry Potter!

In this modern incarnation, he has some interesting
things on his agenda for kids. It's been called
the 7-point plan.

Harry's 7-point Agenda

* Entice and initiate as many kids as possible
into "fun" witchcraft through the Harry Potter
books and movies... and gradually but quietly
graduate them into deep occultism and hard
core black magic as they grow older.

* Push them to commit suicide (Note: many kids
are reported to have gone into deep depression
already as a result of the death in this new
book - just the prelude to suicide).

* Use more kids as instruments to commit mass
murder in schools and other public places.

* Use innocent looking kids to lure and recruit
their unsuspecting friends into witchcraft
(In the city where I live 610 kids gathered
just 2 days after the launch to practice how to
cast spells and mix portions)

* Position at least one witchcraft-practising
kid in each family, then later equip her to
wreck the home and turn that family into a
desert.

* Use the kids to promote an epidemic of
rebellion (with a little help from drugs
and hip hop music), plus an unprecedented
level of pornography, sexual perversion and
abortion.

* Use the kids as the foot soldiers in the
renewed war against the spread of the gospel of
Jesus Christ to the next generations.

The Good News

You see, this intelligent witchcraft spirit (or
Harry Potter, if you prefer) is waging this
serious war against kids knowing fully well that
they are tomorrow's leaders... and GOD has a
special plan for them.

We know from Psalm 8:2 that GOD wants to use
the children to disgrace His enemies.

And HE has graciously give us a very effective
weapon to help keep our kids out of the clutches
of Harry Potter (a.k.a. Beelzebub).

That weapon is...

To pray over our kids while they are sleeping.
We, as parents, must minister to them gently
and in love.

Infants and young children (including the ones
in the womb) need to be prayed for against
bad influence from friends, and unconscious
witchcraft initiation through Pottermania.

They need to be constantly placed under the
protection of the blood of Jesus.

You should get into the habit of reading the
entire Psalm 91 over your children... daily.

Here's a small sample of the kind of prayer
you should be praying:

"As the LORD lives, my kids (mention them by
name) shall not come under the bewitchment of
Harry Potter and his agents in Jesus' name.

I bind all enchantments and divinations
programmed to waste my kids in Jesus' name.

The God that answers by fire let him be God.
O LORD, answer by fire and disgrace every evil
messenger assigned against my kids in the
name of Jesus."

If you program this kind of prayer into the
midnight hour, it will:

Who Are Playing the Good Characters in the New Harry Potter Film?

The new Harry Potter movie is most hot and sensational topic these days among all. The newspapers and websites are spilling out as much information as possible thus creating a great amount of hype and sensation among the fans. The movie is based on the sixth novel of the series and promises to provide a great show for all viewers.

The plot of the movie is already known to the fans as they have learned the book by heart, but it has been some time now that the sixth book was released. The movie has slightly edited versions from the book since the story line of the book is too long and every scene cannot be included.

The most noble and caring character of the movie is professor Dumbledore. The character is being played by Sir Michael Gambon. In the movie, Dumbledore guides Harry through all the tests and trials to make him aware of Lord Voledemorts history and his weakness. The headmaster prepares Harry for the great battle that he has to face in the end.

The good characters in the movie are all the Weaselys as well. When harry started off with his first year at Hogwarts he came across Ron Weasely and they immediately became friends. Ron is being played by Rupert Grint since the first movie and the following sequels and his family members include his mother and father, whose character is being played by Julie Walters and Mark Williams.

Following these characters are Ron's brothers as well. Although Percy plays a slightly negative role but the other brothers which are included in the movie are being played by James and Oliver Phelps as Fred and George Weasely. Ron has a sister Ginny who gets romantically involved with Harry in this movie and the movie promises to bring some exciting romantic sizzle to the movie. Ginny Weasely is being played by Bonne Wright.

After Ron, Harry's next best friend is Hermione Granger. Emma Watson has done a marvelous job of expressions and acting in this movie. Her role as a concerned friend is impeccable in the movie. She even falls in love with Ron, her other best friend but her concerns regarding Harry are evident throughout the series.

The teachers of Hogwarts, which are also part of the Order Of the Phoenix, an organisation that fights the Dark Lord are included in the good characters. They work towards providing Harry the best protection over their lives. The teachers include Professor McGonagall, Professor Slughorn, Professor Flitwick, and professor Dumbledore.

Other various characters that play a positive role in the movie are Remeus Lupin, who despite being a werewolf teaches Harry many useful spells and protects him over his life. David Thewlis is playing his character. Next comes Nymphadora Tonks, whose character is adopted by Natalia Tena, is an important yet juicy character in the movie. She is a part of the Order Of The Phoenix. Overall, the movie is a must to watch and is to be released on 15th July all over the world.

Harry Potter Swine Flu

Swine flu takes no prisoners, not even the wizard students of Hogwarts can escape the pig virus as witnessed by the recent swine flu contraction of Rupert Grint who plays Harry Potters best friend side-kick, Ron Weasley.

Fortunately for the young wizard it was a mild infection and he didn't need to call on his buddy for any hokus-pokus magic potions, indeed he recovered in time to attend the Premiere of  Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince.

Rupert's case was a classic example of getting a quick diagnosis and early treatment which enabled him to return to the film-set with minimum disruption.

The UK is in fact experiencing a surge in diagnosed cases of swine flu, the last count was approaching 8000 cases - and worse, if not kept in check by the UK authorities escalation has been estimated at more than 100,000 cases by August end.

"Wizard Weasley" was extremely lucky, reports of him suffering some nausea and a mild sore throat bodes well for early detection. Some people however are not so fortunate with an already rising death toll.

In actual fact, according to the Guardian, Britain's worst case scenario is a death toll of 65,000. Further, according to Britain's Chief Medical Officer an expected fatality of 3,100 due to contracting swine flu is real. 

The message for everyone then is crystal clear. At the first moment of suspected symptoms get your butt to the doctor as experience as shown, early detection increase dramatically the possibility of survival with no ill effects.  

Power - The Harry Potter Story

Do you know what it means to be in power?

More money. More women. More fame. More recognition. More relevance. More control. Little wonder so many people wish to be in power. Little wonder some wouldn't mind doing anything- stealing votes, threatening the peace and security of others, spilling innocent blood- all for power.

Have you read any of the Harry Potter series? If you haven't, then I think you really need to. A lot of people see it as a story based of witchcraft and wizardry, which is true. But, I see it as being much more. I see it as being a book about real life. It discusses real issues that are necessary to the growth and maturity of anybody. In this post, I will explain power from the Harry Potter dimension.

For those who have not had the opportunity of following the story line, let me give a short summary. It is about a young boy, Harry Potter who leaves a perfectly normal (or rather imperfectly normal) life with his Aunt and her family. He thinks he is normal until one day, he gets a letter informing him that he has been offered admission to the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, as he is actually a wizard. Naturally, Harry is doubtful and his relatives are relunctant to let him go (though they are not actually in good terms). However, through a series of rather amusing events, Harry winds up at the school.

At Hogwarts, Harry meets other kids like him. Some become his friends- like Ron and Hermione- while some others become his enemies (like Malfoy, Goyle and Crabby). Quick into the story, we see his friends being examples of

courage, bravery and positive decisions. We see them uniting to join the school headmaster, Albus Dumbledore in his fight against terrorism. We also see some others, the enemies Harry gains so quickly, seeming to love the attractions of dark (or evil) power.

But we've skipped an important part of the story. Harry has by now discovered that he is not just a common wizard. He is famous! it turns out that he is part of a household story that occurred at the time of his birth...

The wizardry community had been under the strong hold of a wizard known as Voldemort. He was exremely powerful and he was well known for his wicked killings and quenching thirst for power. Pressurized by one man for a long period, the entire community had lived in fear. One day however, Voldemort had succeeded in killing Harry's parents. However, when he tried to kill Harry, the curse bounced back and all of a sudden, Voldemort lost all his powers and dissappeared.

So Harry suddenly is thrust into fame and responsibility. He has to plan a permanent defeat of Voldemort, for there are speculations (that soon turn out to be true) that Voldemort is still going to rise back to power. He has to handle fame. He has to handle the leadership role that has been thrust on him naturally.

I won't continue with the story, because I would like you to read the 7 parts for yourself. it is an intricate story of power, of love and hate, of leadership and dictatorship, of charisma, friendship and enemity. It can grab your full attention, stir your mind, motivate you, excite you. Hey, I'm not being paid for this advert!

So what lessons do I want to teach from this story?

1. The strongest power lies in love: Harry could not be overcome by Voldemort because he was covered by the love of his (Harry's) mother. Love others. If you hate, you can't think sanely. Even enemies are best won over with love. And in love lies such amazing power. Powers like the power of friendship, of networking, of team spirit. The fundamental principle of leadership or even power, is love.

2. You Will Have Enemies if You Have Power: Ever seen people who hate you just by looking at you? well, such comes when you achieve some form of prominence. So, if you can't learn to live comfortable with opposition, you can't succeed.

3. Before you can rule others, you must rule yourself: Master yourself. Harry finally won the war (in part 7) through supreme mastery of the powers (and weaknesses) of himself. He had mastered things such as lust for power, hatred, lust for wealth or fame, etc. At the point in which he won, he had become willing to die to save the lives of others. He had mastered himself and was willing to do things for the good of others. As the book rightly concludes, power is best managed by those who never sought it. Such people don't need power for selfish reasons.

4. Think of the Big Picture: Power lies in the brain. The greatest battles are those of the mind. Plan ahead! Many times, we do not see the big picture; we think from narrow points of view. Don't think just about today. Think about the future. Less people would kill for power if they could see things in perspective. The greatest power Dumbledore demonstrated in the story (which also happened to be the author's checkmate) lay in his ability to think and plan ahead. he overcame all others who compared to him, were small time thinkers.

Harry Potter Roleplaying

When you choose to take a piece of literature and expand upon it, either through roleplaying, or through some form of fan fiction, there are a number of choices that you have to make. First and foremost is, will you stick to the logical and chronological timeline that was laid out in the book? If you choose to follow the chronology of the book you can either choose to replay something that was written, simply mirroring what is in the story, or you can fill in gaps that the story doesn't cover, such as time periods which were glossed over, or events which were not described in great detail.

On the other hand you can always choose to create a completely new derivative. You can make Harry Potter turn evil, or can have Hermione get a crush on Snape, or any of an infinite number of changes that you can make, to explore the "what ifs" of the story.

Another choice you have to make is time. A series such as Harry Potter stretches out over 8 years, and you can set your own derivative adventures during any of those years, or even before or after the events in the book.

Finally, you have to make choices about characters. You have the whole universe of Harry Potter characters open to you, but you have to understand their relationships, their connections, and how they react and interact with one another. This will all also be determined to some extent by the time period that your story is taking place in.

One of the things that can make a decent Harry Potter roleplaying session so difficult is that the book series is quite long and detailed, with literally hundreds of characters popping up at various points throughout. On the one hand this gives you a lot of room for creativity. On the other hand it also gives you a lot of room to make mistakes, and to forget important details.

How to Choose Tableware For Your Harry Potter Party

The fanciful world of Harry Potter may seem daunting when it comes to creating your own party at home, based on this theme.

In an hour of planning -- armed with paper and pen (or parchment and quill) -- you can use the colors and motifs of Hogwarts School and the Wizarding World to generate loads of ideas that will make your event colorful and unique.

Here are some table setting ideas for your party:

Three Broomsticks

This is the restaurant in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter offering breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You can also sample the JK Rowling approved Butterbeer and Pumpkin Juice! The restaurant is one of the best themed building in the whole Harry Potter theme park, but you have to buy some food to take in the beauty and wonder of the interior.

Dragon Challenge

The Dragon Challenge takes the place of the old Duelling Dragons coaster. Still the same roller coaster with some radical changes to the queue line, so you feel part of the world of Harry Potter. Two "dragons" fight each other and take you along for the ride. Just as with the old Dueling Dragons

Flight of the Hippogriff

A coaster for the younger visitors, the Flight of the Hippogriff uses the "Flying Unicorn" coaster from the old Lost Continent. The theming and story line for this ride follows right in line with the Harry Potter series and the coaster has been remodeled to look like a Hippogriff. Although it's meant for kids, it provides some amazing views of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, as well as some thrills, even for adults.

Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey

The most anticipated ride in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter utilizes new ride-technology to take guests on a broomstick ride for a quidditch match! The queue line allows visitors to explore Hogwart's Castle. The line is almost as much fun as the ride! The show never stops from the time you enter the castle until you're "released" from the ride. The ride itself provides thrills and scenes that may be a bit much for the younger wizards-to-be and you do have to be 48" tall to mount your "broomstick" for the match.

If you haven't been burned to a crisp by a dragon or eaten by a Hippogriff by this point, you can enjoy some of the shows that crop up around Hogsmeade Village or "board" the train at platform 9-3/4 for the ride home.

Harry Potter - The Boy Who Lived

When I first started reading Harry Potter, I was immediately fascinated by the fantastical universe that J.K. Rowling created. This thing rarely happens to me and therefore I knew that I had laid my hands on something majestic.

Harry Potter is a story about a ten-year old boy who is living at his uncle's house because his parents died when he was just a baby , and discovers that he has magical powers. At his 10th anniversary, he is invited to join Hogwarts, a prestigious school of magic where young wizards from all over the world are taught to control their special powers.

As time goes by, Harry finds out the cold truth about his parents - they were killed by Lord Voldemort who tried to kill him too, but a powerful spell protected him, defeating Voldemort and giving him a thunder-like scar on his forehead. Along the story, Harry must face a lot of challenges which threaten his life. His two best friends, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley offer him a great deal of support whenever he needs it.

Harry Potter is composed of a series of seven books full of excitement, magic and action. Their titles are: "The philosophers' stone" , "The chamber of secrets", "Prisoner in Azkaban", "Fire Chalice", "Order of the Phoenix", "The Half-Blood Prince" and "The Deathly Hallows". The reader will encounter giant spiders, three-headed dogs, dementors, ghosts, centaurs and last but not least, werewolves. All in all, Harry Potter is a must and I would definitely recommend it to anyone, young or old, who enjoy reading a good book.

The Legend of Harry Potter

A young wizard armed with spells capable of causing mass destruction. A boy struggling to come to terms with his troubled past. A faithful person prepared to lay down his life for saving his friends. All these descriptions are applicable for Harry Potter, a character made immortal by the now legendary British author J.K. Rowling in a series of novels originally created for children.

Harry is a young boy whose parents died while trying to save him when he was a infant. A wizard named Voldemort was behind the slaughter of his parents and he cast the same curse on Harry that he killed his parents with. Miraculously, the curse rebounded off infant Harry (because of an enchantment placed on him by his mother before she succumbed to Voldemort's lethal curse) and killed Voldemort himself. Voldemort's spirit, however, remained trapped in the material plain, keeping him in a neither dead nor alive condition. All that Harry suffered from was a bolt shaped scar on his forehead. The wizard community is astounded to know this and name Harry as 'the boy who lived', since he was the only person ever to have survived Voldemort's curse. The enchantment that was placed on Harry is supposed to last until his seventeenth birthday; before that, no matter how hard Voldemort may try, Harry will remain immune to his curse.

Orphaned at infancy, Harry is brought to his magic-phobic uncle Vemon Dursley and his family by half-giant Rubeus Hagrid, the caretaker for students at Hogwarts school of magic, the most influential training school for wizards in the Wizarding World, the Harry Potter universe. However, young Harry is thought of as being possessed by a demon by his uncle and family, because of his magical powers. They treat him with harshness and allow him to live in a claustrophobic closet under the stairs at their home on Privet Drive. As Harry approaches the age of eleven, he starts getting letters from Hogwarts School of Magic via trained owls. The letters contain instructions about how he should prepare himself for the initiation test at Hogwarts.

However, his uncle soon finds out about the letters and starts confiscating them so that harry could never realize his potential. When he finds out that the letters will keep coming no matter how many times he grabs them, his uncle moves with his family and Harry to a deserted island just off the coast. That does not stop Rubeus Hagrid from breaking into the house on Harry's eleventh birthday. He informs Harry in front of his terrified uncle that Harry has ben chosen for the initiation test at Hogwarts and hands him the letter containing instructions for preparation. Harry is mystified to find out about his magical origin. Rubeus explains that ordinary Muggles (the race of the people in Harrry Potter universe) cannot learn magic; wizardry is an ability that can only be acquired through birthright. He explains to Harry the true reason for his parents' deaths. Following a long hard stare at his frightened uncle and his family, Rubeus leads young Harry away from his uncle's family and to Hogwarts. The Dean of the school, old Dumbledore takes special interest in young Harry's potential and assigns Harry to the exercises requiring greater concentration and intelligence than other students. Solving these tougher challenges enables Harry to hone his abilities as a wizard much quicker than other students.

The Harry Potter series of seven books highlights the years Harry spent at Hogwarts, learning how to control his magical abilities and the ways to create magical potions and tidbits. Starting from 'Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone' published in 1997, the seventh book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows has been released in 2007. The mammoth sales figures for all seven of these books make Harry Potter one of the most successful series ever published.
